Omni – Finstat - Importing Prices

Before importing unit prices from Finstat into Omni, you need to set up the Finstat code for each fund – details are in Finstat Codes

Downloading Ongoing Prices

Prices can be downloaded in 2 ways:

Manual Download or Email

If you use the manual method then you log onto the Finstat website and follow their instructions for obtaining the latest files. The files supplied by Finstat have to be stored in the folder you have specified to Omni in the ‘Finstat Folder’ field on the ‘Finstat’ tab of the Settings screen (System, Master User Options, Settings’).

If you receive the files by email from Finstat then you store all of them to that same folder.

Once the files have been stored in that folder, select ‘Investments, Prices, Prices From Finstat’. The screen shows the dates of the latest Finstat files that have saved. Check that the dates shown on that screen are correct and then click ‘Proceed’.

FTP Download

Omni can access Finstat’s webspace directly without you logging onto their website. To do this, Omni needs 3 pieces of information:

These details should be stored on Omni’s Settings screen (System, Master User Options, Settings’), on the Finstat tab. Storing the password is optional - if it is not stored in Omni you will be prompted for a password each time a connection is made.

If the URL is stored in the Settings screen then when you select select ‘Investments, Prices, Prices From Finstat’, Omni will ask if you want to proceed with the FTP download. If the URL has not been stored then you will have to click on the ‘Get Updates from FTP’ button after selecting ‘Investments, Prices, Prices From Finstat’.

For either method, Omni searches all stocks and where a Finstat code has been stored in Omni, the price for that fund from the latest Finstat file is stored in Omni. This price is then available for a valuation of any scheme that has a holding in that fund.

This process just updates the prices from the latest files downloaded. If you have a gap, perhaps because 2 dates’ files are downloaded together, then you need to run again and change the date to the date of the missing prices.

Viewing Prices

To view the a schedule of the prices for a fund, select ‘Investments, Prices, Other Prices’, then select ‘All General Stocks’ and start to type the manager name in the Search box. Once the fund has been selected, the schedule of prices will appear in the grid on the right hand side. The schedule can be sent to an Excel spreadsheet.
